Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony prawie w całej Europie, przy tym w południowej i środkowej części występuje głównie na terenach górzystych, a na północy dochodzi do mniej więcej 67° szerokości geograficznej; notowany również z okolic Bajkału. W Polsce występuje zarówno na niżu, jak i w górach, gdzie dochodzi do strefy subalpejskiej. Cykl rozwojowy trwa co najmniej dwa lata. Larwy odbywają rozwój najczęściej w wilgotnym, przegrzybiałym drewnie obłamanych, leżących na ziemi gałęzi, rzadziej w drewnie pni i pniaków. Znajdowane są przeważnie w brzozie, rzadziej w olszy, buku i wierzbie. Przepoczwarczenie następuje późnym latem i postacie dorosłe przezimowują w komorze poczwarkowej. Ukazują się w maju i przeżywają do lipca. Żerują na młodych pędach nisko położonych gałęzi drzew i krzewów oraz na wyciekającym soku z drzew. Latają w dni słoneczne.
