Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1980:
Gatunek rozsiedlony w prawie całej Europie (prócz skrajnych części północnych), notowany też z Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce niezbyt często spotykany. Rozmieszczenie ogólne tego gatunku, również w Polsce, wymaga poznania. Starsze dane faunistyczne mogą bowiem dotyczyć Staphylinus dimidiaticornis Gemm. St. caesareus Ced. jest gatunkiem wybitnie termofilnym. Występuje na terenach otwartych: na polach i łąkach, w lasach na jego pobrzeżach, drogach i przesiekach. Poławiany przeważnie pod rozkładającymi się szczątkami roślinnymi, ekskrementami i na padlinie.
