Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w Europie południowej i środkowej, wykazywany również z Kaukazu. W Polsce znany z nielicznych stanowisk w różnych częściach kraju. Zasiedla tereny nizinne i niższe położenia górskie. Bionomia poznana fragmentarycznie. Postacie dojrzałe bywają poławiane na wiosnę i w lecie na trawach, zwłaszcza rosnących pod dębami. Według J. Roubala (1936) larwa prowadzi drapieżny sposób życia w chodnikach kornika — ogłodka wielorzędowego (Scolytus multistriatus Marsh.).
