Gatunek rozsiedlony głównie w środkowej i południowo-wschodniej Europie, na północ dociera do Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii, południowej części Fennoskandii i Karelskiej ASRR. W Polsce notowany z nielicznych rozproszonych stanowisk. Występuje na miejscach wilgotnych zarówno na obszarach nizinnych, jak i górzystych, w lasach, na wrzosowiskach i pobrzeżach wód. Poławiany w ściółce, wśród mchów, pod zmurszałą korą, opadłym listowiem, kamieniami i napływkami.
