Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1992:
Szeroko rozprzestrzeniony gatunek prawie w całej Europie i Azji Północnej (prócz ich skrajnych obszarów północnych). Kornik sześciozębny, choć nie znany ze wszystkich krain, występuje na całym obszarze Polski, na niżu wszędzie pospolity, w górach spotykany rzadziej. Głównym żywicielem jest sosna pospolita, rzadziej świerk i modrzew. Opada głównie drzewa stojące i kłody leżące z grubą korą. Żerowisko typu gwiaździstego, z 2-4 chodnikami macierzystymi, miejscami osiągającymi 40 cm długości, przebiegającymi wzdłuż włókien. Chodniki larwalne krótkie, kończące się płaską, okrągławą komorą poczwarkową. Całe żerowisko osiąga niekiedy długość 70 cm i przebiega przeważnie w korze, słabo w bielu.
