Gatunek występujący głównie w środkowej części Europy, notowany poza tym z południowej Szwecji, Kaukazu i Turkiestanu. Wszędzie rzadko i sporadycznie, najczęściej pojedynczo spotykany. W Polsce notowany tylko z dwu stanowisk. Uważany za relikt okresu postglacjalnego. Występuje na kserotermicznych zboczach, nasłonecznionych terenach piaszczystych i w dołach po wybranym piasku. Poławiany na trawach, w norach lisów i w gniazdach mrówek Tetramorium caespitum (L.).
