Taxon description
Gatunek rzadko spotykany, rozmieszczony w południowej i środkowej Europie. W Polsce jest chrząszczem rzadko spotykanym, łowionym jedynie na kilku stanowiskach nizinnych. Występuje w starych, dziuplastych drzewach (dąb, buk, brzoza, lipa), prowadząc skryty sposób życia w trocinach lub zmurszałym drewnie w sąsiedztwie gniazd mrówek Lasius brunneus (Latr.), Lasius fuliginosus (Latr.) i Formica sanguinea Latr.
