Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący Europę południową i środkową oraz kilka prowincji południowych w Szwecji i Finlandii; znany poza tym z Syberii, Kaukazu i Syrii oraz, jako importowany, z Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce wykazywany z nielicznych stanowisk w różnych częściach kraju. Pozwija się w łodygach malin, jeżyn oraz róż dziko rosnących i uprawnych. W ogrodnictwie uważany za szkodnika. Składanie jaj odbywa się na całkowicie; zdrowych łodygach. Larwy wyżerają pod korą chodniki spiralne, powodując na łodydze wrzecionowate nabrzmienia. Łodyga w tych miejscach nieraz usycha i łatwo ulega wyłamaniu. Dorosła larwa robi w maju następnego roku komorę poczwarkową w rdzeniu. Postacie dojrzałe pojawiają się od maja do lipca, w wyższych położeniach górskich do sierpnia; w pogodne dni słoneczne przebywają zwykle na liściach krzewów żywicielskich.
