Taxon description
Szeroko rozmieszczony gatunek holarktyczny, występujący pospolicie w całej Europie. W Polsce, aczkolwiek nie jest jeszcze znany ze wszystkich krain, prawdopodobnie występuje na całym obszarze. Zamieszkuje zarówno obszary nizinne, jak i górskie, gdzie dociera do górnej granicy lasu. Gatunek ubikwistyczny, występujący w różnych biotopach pod rozkładającymi się szczątkami roślinnymi, opadłym listowiem, ekskrementami, w nawozie i na padlinie. Rozwój larw odbywa się w pupariach muchówek, często wraz z larwami gatunku omówionego poprzednio. Cykl rozwojowy jest bardzo krótki — trwa około miesiąca; w roku występują trzy generacje.
