Gatunek zamieszkujący południową i środkową część Europy, notowany również z Kaukazu i Azji Mniejszej. W Polsce znany na ogół z pojedynczych miejscowości w niewielu krainach, tylko na Śląsku poławiany na liczniejszych stanowiskach. Wymagania ekologiczne słabo poznane. Poławiany przeważnie pojedynczo pod opadłymi liśćmi, wśród mchów, pod ekskrementami, w nawozie, gnijących grzybach, w zmurszałych dziuplach, wśród mchów i w gniazdach kretów.
