Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 1981:

Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony prawie w całej Europie z wyjątkiem jej krańców północnych, a na wschód przez Syberię docierający do Władywostoku. W Polsce notowany z nielicznych stanowisk. Chrząszcz występujący głównie jako synantrop w pomieszczeniach dla królików i kur, ponadto znajdowany w szopach, piwnicach, stodołach i stogach, a nawet w grotach i jaskiniach. Poławiany pod ekskrementami, w nawozie, kompoście, resztkach słomy i siana, na padlinie, pojedynczo przy soku wyciekającym z drzew, w murszu pni, pod gnijącymi liśćmi oraz w gniazdach myszy i kretów.
