Taxon description
Gatunek występujący w zachodniej, południowej i środkowej części Europy, notowany też z Azji Mniejszej, Kaukazu, Ameryki Północnej, Nowej Funlandii i Chile. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadki, wykazany tylko ogólnikowo z „Zamojszczyzny". Występuje na padlinie większych zwierząt oraz pod ekskrementami, zwłaszcza końskimi.
