Gatunek europejski obejmujący zasięgiem zachodnią, środkową i wschodnią część kontynentu. W Polsce chrząszcz należy do rzadkości, znany tylko z dwu stanowisk. Notowany poza tym ogólnikowo ze Śląska i z Galicji. Według Z. Cmolucha (1989) wykazany z wielu stanowisk (Małopolska, Śląsk), jednak w piśmiennictwie nie znajduje to potwierdzenia. Postacie dojrzałe ukazują się w maju i bywają poławiane do sierpnia. Larwy żerują w butwiejących gałązkach drzew iglastych i liściastych. Jako rośliny żywicielskie podawane są sosna zwyczajna, świerk pospolity, olsza czarna, śliwa tarnina oraz gatunki z rodzajów wierzba i wiśnia.
