Gatunek rozmieszczony głównie w południowej i środkowej Europie, ponadto notowany z Wysp Brytyjskich i dwu południowych prowincji Szwecji. Wszędzie, również w Polsce, chrząszcz rzadko spotykany, znany u nas tylko z południowej części kraju; od 40 lat nie obserwowany. Poławiany przeważnie na pobrzeżach wód pod kamieniami, opadłym listowiem i napływkami.
