Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1983:
Gatunek rozmieszczony w Holarktyce, zawleczony także do Ameryki Południowej i Afryki Południowej. W Europie dociera do skrajnych prowincji północnych Fennoskandii, a w środkowej części kontynentu występuje zwłaszcza w górach, na południe sięgając po Pireneje, południowy łuk Alp i Bałkan północny. W Polsce gatunek pospolity, zwłaszcza w pasie wyżyn i na pogórzu. Poławiany zwykle późnym latem i na jesieni w odchodach bydła i koni, rzadziej w ekskrementach dzikich zwierząt. Przylatuje do światła.
