Taxon description
Gatunek ten w warunkach naturalnych jest mieszkańcem ciepłych rejonów w południowo-wschodniej Azji, obszarze indo-malajskim, Australii i Ameryki Środkowej. Bywa zawlekany do wielu portów i miast europejskich. W Polsce znany pod nazwą kobielatka kawowa, notowany dotychczas z sześciu miast. Wykazywany jako szkodnik kawy i kakao, żeruje również na orzechach kokosowych i ziemnych, suszonych owocach oraz kukurydzy. W rejonach klimatu umiarkowanego rozwój może odbywać tylko w ciepłych magazynach, gdzie może powodować poważne szkody.
