Taxon description
Gatunek holarktyczny, w Europie sięgający daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. W Polsce rozsiedlony od Bałtyku aż po Tatry, ale brak jeszcze danych o jego występowaniu w pięciu krainach. Żyje na brzozie brodawkowatej — Betula verrucosa Ehrh. Samice składają jaja w pobliżu wierzchołka żeńskich kotków. Larwy drążą chodniki równolegle do osi w kierunku podstawy kotka i odżywiają się niedojrzałymi nasionami. Komory poczwarkowe są wydrążane w podstawowej części kotka.
