Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony w znacznej części Palearktyki, w Europie głównie w południowej i środkowej części, na północ sięgający po Wyspy Brytyjskie, Danię i południowe obszary Fennoskandii. W Polsce chrząszcz pospolity w całym kraju, w górach sięga po regiel dolny. Występuje zarówno na terenach suchych, jak i wilgotnych. Zasiedla pola, pastwiska, przydroża, rumowiska, zarośla oraz wilgotne łąki i torfowiska. Jako rośliny żywicielskie piśmiennictwo podaje ostrożeń polny — Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop., ostrożeń błotny — C. palustre (L.) Scop., ostrożeń lancetowaty — C. lanceolatum (L.) Scop., ostrożeń warzywny — C. oleraceum (L.) Scop. oraz oset nastroszony — Carduus acanthoides L. i oset zwisły — C. nutans L. Larwy żerują w łodygach, ogonkach i żyłkach środkowych liści, gdzie drążą długie chodniki. Przeobrażenie następuje w lipcu-sierpniu. Imagines zimują.
