Taxon description
Gatunek europejski, rozmieszczony od skrajnych, północnych prowincji Fennoskandii do północnej części południowej Europy. Występuje zarówno na niżu jak i w górach, gdzie jest liczniej spotykany, w Alpach dociera do 2400 m n.p.m., a w Beskidzie Zachodnim łowiony na szczycie Babiej Góry (1725 m n.p.m.). Znajdowany w bydlęcych, świeżych ekskrementach, zwłaszcza na pastwiskach.
