Gatunek zamieszkujący Afrykę Północną oraz południową i środkową część Europy; notowany ponadto z Danii i szwedzkiej wyspy öland. Jest gatunkiem mało znanym, gdyż przez przeszło sto lat uważany był za synonim S. (S.) cambricus Steph. W Polsce zaliczany do fauny krajowej na podstawie jednego okazu znalezionego w ubiegłym wieku w Legnicy, dlatego też współczesne ogólnikowe wzmianki o jego występowaniu na Śląsku winny być potwierdzone nowymi materiałami (Mroczkowski i Stefańska 1992). Występuje na polach, łąkach, pastwiskach, wydmach i słonawiskach. Postacie dojrzałe spotyka się od wiosny do jesieni na komonicy zwyczajnej — Lotus corniculatus L., komonicy wąskolistnej — L. tenuifolius (L.) Rchb. i komonicy skrzydlatostrąkowej — L. siliquosus L. Przebieg rozwoju nie jest znany.
