Gatunek rozsiedlony w zachodniej i środkowej części Europy, na południe docierający do środkowych Włoch. W Polsce jest chrząszczem rzadko spotykanym, znanym dotychczas z nielicznych stanowisk tylko w czterech krainach. Poławiano go od czerwca do października na pobrzeżach lasów, często w pobliżu stawów. Roślinami żywicielskimi są różne gatunki topól.
