Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony w północnej i środkowej części Europy oraz górzystych terenach Francji, na południe docierający do Włoch północnych, notowany poza tym z Syberii i Japonii. W Europie środkowej zasiedla głównie leśne obszary górskie i podgórza. W Polsce znany z nielicznych stanowisk, głównie w południowej części kraju. Larwy odbywają rozwój w owocnikach niszczycy płotowej — Gloeophyllum sepiarium (Wulf. ex Fr.) P. Karst. oraz w przegrzbiałym żółto-brunatnym drewnie pod owocnikami tej huby. Saprofityczny ten grzyb występuje na drzewach iglastych, zwłaszcza świerkach i sosnach; rozwija się on w miejscach pozbawionych kory na pniakach, kłodach, szczapach, a zwłaszcza na drewnie użytkowym, jak płoty, słupy, podkłady kolejowe, wieże triangulacyjne, mosty, słupy teletechniczne itp. Postacie dojrzałe znajdowano zwykle w pobliżu miejsc lęgowych, bardzo rzadko na kwiatach.
