Gatunek wysokogórski rozmieszczony w strefie alpejskiej i subalpejskiej Tatr. Zasiedla piętro kosodrzewiny, hal i turni, spotykany częściej powyżej górnej granicy lasu, zwłaszcza w pobliżu topniejących płatów śniegu.
