Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 1986c:

Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w całej Palearktyce, w Europie w miarę posuwania się z południa na północ coraz częściej spotykany, a w Fennoskandii sięgający daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. W Polsce występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze prócz wyższych partii górskich. Występuje głównie na swobodzie, rzadziej jest spotykany w domach, składach i magazynach skór, futer i pierza, w gniazdach ptaków; jest notowany także jako szkodnik kokonów jedwabnika. W naszych warunkach jest jedna lub dwie generacje w roku. Zarówno postacie dojrzałe, jak i larwy, przezimowują. Żywią się na swobodzie wyschniętą padliną rozmaitych zwierząt, zwłaszcza kręgowców, natomiast w magazynach i domach produktami pochodzenia zwierzęcego.
