Taxon description
Gatunek północnopalearktyczny, rozmieszczony w północnej i środkowej części Europy, na zachód docierający do Francji, a na południe do północnych Włoch i Chorwacji, notowany również z Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadko spotykany, znany tylko z kilku miejscowości położonych w trzech krainach. Zasiedla pobrzeża płynących wód, głównie w obszarach podgórskich i górskich, niekiedy znoszony wodami powodziowymi na tereny nizinne, ale nie aklimatyzuje się tam na stałe. Znajdowany pod napływkami, rozkładającymi się szczątkami roślinnymi, pod opadłym listowiem w lasach łęgowych i wśród mchów porastających stare wierzby i olchy.
