Szeroko rozpowszechniony gatunek od środkowej i północnej Europy przez Syberię aż do Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce wykazywany z terenów nizinnych i podgórskich. Występuje głównie w drobnych, zarośniętych zbiornikach wodnych.
