Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w południowej części Obszaru Palearktycznego, rozpowszechniony w Europie w jej części południowej i środkowej, natomiast do obszaru północnego bywa tylko sporadycznie importowany — najdalej na północ wysunięte stanowiska były notowane z Anglii, Szkocji, Danii i Szwecji. W Polsce chrząszcz bardzo rzadko spotykany. Jest gatunkiem synantropijnym, występującym głównie w większych miastach, przeważnie rzadko i sporadycznie spotykanym, ale niekiedy w miejscach pojawu łowionym w większej liczbie osobników. Zasiedla stare budynki, domy towarowe, magazyny zbożowe, muzea, a nawet suche pryzmy kompostowe. Larwy i postacie dojrzałe odżywiają się głównie produktami zbożowymi i importowanymi towarami spożywczymi. Chrząszcze mają dość długi aktywny okres życia; mogą one przeżywać do 18 miesięcy przy przeciętnej temperaturze około 25°C.
