Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1986c:
Gatunek rozmieszczony niemal w całej Europie z wyjątkiem obszaru północnego, notowany ponadto z północno-zachodniej części Kazachskiej SRR. W Polsce chrząszcz rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany, wykazywany z rozproszonych stanowisk w różnych częściach kraju. Bionomia jest poznana niedostatecznie. Larwy żerują na martwych owadach, obserwowano także atakowanie i uszkodzenie poczwarki pałczenia — Pseudoclavellaria amerinae L. (Kapuściński 1934). Przepoczwarczenie ma miejsce pod koniec lata lub na początku jesieni, a wylęgnięte imago zimuje, nie opuszczając ostatniej wylinki larwalnej. Postacie dojrzałe znajdowano w próchnie starych drzew, pod odstającą korą oraz na kwiatach rozmaitych roślin, gdzie odżywiają się nektarem i pyłkiem oraz niekiedy kopulują.
