Znany głównie ze środkowej części Europy, docierający na zachód do Wysp Brytyjskich i Francji; wykazywany także z dwu południowych prowincji Szwecji oraz z Kaukazu. W Polsce jest chrząszczem rzadko spotykanym, znanym tylko z sześciu krain, przy czym większość danych o rozmieszczeniu opiera się na znaleziskach z ubiegłego stulecia, dlatego też wymagają one potwierdzenia nowymi materiałami. Bionomia omawianego gatunku jest słabo poznana. Larwy występują pod odstającą korą; przezimowują. Przepoczwarczenie następuje w kwietniu, a stadium poczwarki trwa około 10 dni. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano od kwietnia do lipca na kwiatach roślin biało kwitnących, zwłaszcza krzewów tarniny, głogu i jarzębiny, na których żywią się pyłkiem i nektarem oraz ma miejsce kopulacja.
