Taxon description
Szeroko rozprzestrzeniony gatunek, znany z zachodniej, środkowej i północnej części Europy, w Fennoskandii sięgający daleko poza koło podbiegunowe; wykazywany poza tym z Syberii, północnych Włoch i Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce występuje od Bałtyku aż po Tatry; w południowej części kraju pospolity, w zachodnich i północnych krainach spotykany rzadko i sporadycznie. Zamieszkuje pobrzeża wód, bagna, łąki wilgotne, torfowiska i doliny rzeczne na terenach nizinnych i w niższych partiach górskich. Roślinami żywicielskimi są skrzyp błotny — Equisetum palustre L. i skrzyp polny — E. arvense L. Postacie dojrzałe po przezimowaniu w glebie pojawiają się na roślinach w maju. Od połowy czerwca samice składają jaja na łodygach w międzywęźla, zwykle pojedynczo, niekiedy do pięciu sztuk. Larwy drążą chodniki w łodydze aż do szyi korzeniowej, gdzie następuje przepoczwarczenie, które może mieć miejsce na jesieni, jak we Francji, i zimuje wtedy imago, albo jak w Anglii, gdzie zimuje larwa, a poczwarka pojawia się wczesną wiosną.
