Taxon description
Gatunek o niedostatecznie poznanym rozmieszczeniu, gdyż przez długi czas nie odróżniany od podobnego Gyrohypnus punctulatus (Paykull). Notowany z różnych części Europy. Według A. Szujeckiego (1976) występuje w całej Polsce, aczkolwiek dotychczas wykazywany jest zaledwie z czterech krain. Występuje wśród rozkładających się szczątków organicznych w różnych środowiskach, zwłaszcza synantropijnych.
