Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony w północnej i środkowej części Europy, w Fennoskandii sięgający do skrajnych prowincji północnych, notowany także z Kaukazu. W Polsce chrząszcz bardzo rzadko poławiany, znany tylko z trzech krain. Choć na ogół rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany, to jednak w miejscach pojawu występuje w ogromnych ilościach, nawet w tysiącach osobników. Żyje w gniazdach ptaków drapieżnych: myszołowa zwyczajnego — Buteo buteo (L.), jastrzębia gołębiarza — Accipiter gentilis (L.), krogulca — Accipiter nisus (L.), kani czarnej — Milvus migrans (Bodd.) i trzmielojada — Pernis apivorus (L.).
