Taxon description
Gatunek o zasięgu ograniczonym do północno-wschodniej części Europy — poza Polską notowany z Łotwy, Estonii, południowej Finlandii i północnych połaci europejskiej części ZSRR. Dotychczas był znany u nas tylko z Elbląga na podstawie znaleziska sprzed 120 lat. Stosunkowo niedawno został odkryty w Puszczy Białowieskiej i prawdopodobnie jest szerzej rozsiedlony na obszarach leśnych w północno-wschodniej części kraju. Cykl rozwojowy trwa dwa lata. Larwy żyją w bardzo grubych, stojących, nie okorowanych pniach lub złomach niedawno uschniętych osik — żerują w gnijącej, powierzchniowej warstwie drewna, najwyżej do głębokości 3 cm, pod luźno przylegającą korą. Jako materiał pokarmowy dla larw wykazywano również drewno wierzb. Larwy po dwukrotnym przezimowaniu przepoczwarczają się na wiosnę, a postacie dojrzałe pojawiają się w maju i są poławiane do czerwca.
