Taxon description
Szeroko rozprzestrzeniony gatunek w całej Palearktyce, w Europie sięgający daleko poza koło podbiegunowe, wykazywany ponadto z północnej części Indii, Ameryki Północnej i Australii. W Polsce notowany z nielicznych stanowisk, przy tym wiele danych opiera się na znaleziskach w ubiegłym stuleciu. Zamieszkuje zarówno tereny nizinne, jak i niższe położenia górskie. Znajdowany pod różnego rodzaju resztkami roślinnymi, napływkami, ekskrementami, nawozem i w pryzmach kompostowych.
