Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1993:
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w południowej i środkowej części Europy, na wschód sięgający po Kaukaz, Azję Mniejszą i Iran. W Polsce ryjkowiec mało znany, notowany ogólnikowo z Podlasia oraz nielicznych stanowisk w czterech tylko krainach. Zasiedla suche łąki, nasłonecznione zbocza i widne zarośla. Postacie dojrzałe, podobne z wyglądu do kału ptasiego, żerują na goryszu pagórkowym — Peucedanum oreoselinum (L.) Moench. i okrzynie szerokolistnym — Laserpitium latifolium L. Larwy żerują w łodygach lub ogonkach liściowych tych roślin. Przepoczwarczenie następuje w sierpniu lub wrześniu. Imagines zimują w glebie, tylko później wylęgnięte chrząszcze pozostają w łodygach.
