Najpospolitszy gatunek palearktyczny omawianego rodzaju, wykazywany również z Ameryki Północnej. Chociaż nie mamy udokumentowanych danych z niektórych krain, występuje w Polsce prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze. Rozsiedlony zarówno na terenach nizinnych, jak i w lasach. Żyje w różnych gatunkach grzybów kapeluszowych, spotykany również pod płatami mchów, opadłym listowiem i w ściółce w pobliżu strzępek grzybni.
