Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1986b:
Gatunek zamieszkujący południową, środkową i wschodnią część Europy, notowany ponadto z nielicznych stanowisk w Anglii i południowych prowincjach Fennoskandii. W Polsce chrząszcz rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany i choć nie znany jeszcze z wielu krain, występuje prawdopodobnie w całym kraju prócz wyższych partii górskich. Zasiedla tereny nizinne i niższe położenia górskie. Jest spotykany w ciągu całego roku w hubach na pniach starych drzew, w przegrzybiałym drewnie i pod odstającą korą. Rozwój odbywa w dojrzałych owocnikach należących do rodziny purchawkowatych (Lycoperdaceae) — był notowany z kurzawki czerniejącej — Bovista nigrescens Pers. oraz gatunków należących do rodzaju purchawka — Lycoperdon Pers.
