Taxon description
Gatunek występujący w południowej i środkowej części Europy, notowany też z jednego stanowiska w Belgii. W Polsce jest chrząszczem nadzwyczaj rzadkim, wykazywanym tylko z pojedynczych stanowisk w dwu krainach, przy czym wzmianki o występowaniu na Śląsku Dolnym (Dominik 1966d, 1967b) odnoszą się do jednej tylko miejscowości Kliczków koło Bolesławca, a nie jak omyłkowo podano do Kleszczkowa i Kleszczowa. Wątpliwość A. Horiona (1961) co do występowania M. niger (Ph. W. J. Müll.) w Polsce nie jest chyba obecnie aktualna wobec stwierdzenia omawianego gatunku na Śląsku Dolnym. Chrząszcz monofagiczny, rozwijający się w gałązkach bluszczu pospolitego — Hedera helix L. Postacie dojrzałe ukazują się w maju i są poławiane do lipca.
