Gatunek rozsiedlony na obszarach górzystych w środkowej części Europy, wykazywany z Alp, Gór Dynarskich, terenów górskich w NRD i z RFN, z Karpat. W Polsce chrząszcz należący do wielkich rzadkości, znany tylko z dwu krain. Zasiedla wilgotne lasy i zarośla, pobrzeża potoków i rowów. Bionomia tego gatunku nie jest poznana. Poławiano go na kościenicy wodnej — Malachium aquaticum (L.) Fr., roślinie rosnącej na niżu i w niższych położeniach górskich.
