Taxon description
Gatunek rozpowszechniony w zachodniej części Afryki Północnej w południowej i środkowej części Europy, południowej części Anglii i Szwecji, a na wschód przez Azję Mniejszą sięga po Zakaukazie, Syrię, i Iran. W Polsce występuje prawdopodobnie w całym kraju, ale jest stosunkowo rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany, przy tym z niektórych krain dane o występowaniu pochodzą sprzed stu i więcej lat. Chrząszcz ciepłolubny, zasiedlający gleby lekkie i suche na terenach nizinnych i wyżynnych, a także w niższych położeniach górskich. Znajdowany od kwietnia do,; września w ekskrementach krów, koni i owiec.
