Taxon description
Gatunek eurosyberyjski, docierający na wschód do Ałtaju. W Europie jest rozprzestrzeniony od północnych prowincji Fennoskandii przez całą środkową część kontynentu aż do południowych zboczy Pirenejów, Alp, Karpat Południowych i Starej Płaniny. W środkowej Europie występuje głównie na terenach górzystych, gdzie dociera do górnej granicy lasu. W Polsce wykazuje rozerwany zasięgnie jest znany z Niziny Mazowieckiej i Podlasia, a dane o występowaniu na Nizinie Wielkopolsko-Kujawskiej wymagają potwierdzenia nowymi materiałami. Występuje głównie w południowej części kraju, gdzie zasiedla zwarcie lasy górskie. W północno-wschodniej części Polski jest spotykany rzadko i sporadycznie, przeważnie pojedynczo. Zamieszkuje drzewostany iglaste i mieszane. Cykl rozwojowy kilkuletni. Larwy żerują w wilgotnym, martwym, silnie zmurszałym drewnie świerków, sosen i jodeł. Postacie dojrzałe pojawiają się od maja do lipca, w wyższych położeniach górskich do sierpnia. Odbywają loty w ciepłe, słoneczne dni, przebywając na starych pniach i pieńkach drzew lęgowych oraz na kwitnących krzewach na pobrzeżach lasu.
