Gatunek notowany głównie ze środkowej części Europy, na północ sięgający do Wysp Brytyjskich, Szwecji, Finlandii i Karelskiej ASRR, a na zachód do Francji; najdalej na wschód wysuniętym, znanym stanowiskiem jest Irkutsk. W Polsce znany tylko z czterech krain. Wszędzie rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany, najczęściej pojedynczo wśród mchów, pod napływkami i opadłym listowiem. Zasiedla bagniste i torfiaste gleby w lasach oraz na pobrzeżach jezior, rzek, stawów i kałuży.
