Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony głównie w Europie Wschodniej oraz we wschodniej części Europy środkowej, notowany również z Chorwacji, Bośni, Banatu i Siedmiogrodu. Wszędzie rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany oraz łowiony w małej liczbie osobników. W Polsce znany z nielicznych stanowisk rozproszonych w różnych częściach kraju, Chrząszcz termofilny, zasiedlający przeważnie drewno pni w miejscach pozbawionych kory z licznymi otworami wyjściowymi kołatków. Larwy pasożytnicze, odbywają rozwój w chodnikach larw kołatków, głownie Ptilinus fuscus Geoffroy i P. pectinicornis (L.). Według niektórych autorów larwy żerują na larwach kołatków, natomiast według innych na larwach błonkówek zasiedlających stare chodniki kołatków. Pojaw postaci dojrzałych zaczyna się w czerwcu i trwa do sierpnia. Chrząszcze poławiano głównie na nasłonecznionych pniach starych drzew liściastych, głownie wierzb i topól, niekiedy również na ścianach starych uli.
