Taxon description
Rzadko spotykany, lokalny, choć szeroko rozprzestrzeniony gatunek, wykazywany z Europy, Syberii, Chin i Japonii. W Europie notowany głównie ze środkowej części oraz z nielicznych stanowisk w Anglii, Danii, południowej części Szwecji i Finlandii, na zachód sięgający do Francji, a na południe do północnych Włoch i Bałkanów. W Polsce wykazany z nielicznych, rozproszonych stanowisk. Żyje w sąsiedztwie gniazd szerszeni, zazwyczaj pod gniazdami wśród jego opadłych szczątków, resztek pokarmu i ekskrementów szerszeni. Prowadzi drapieżny sposób życia, odżywiając się larwami muchówek, żerujących w wymienionych materiałach. Postacie dorosłe znajdowane również na soku wyciekającym z drzew, zwłaszcza dębów, niekiedy także koło takich drzew wśród mchów, pod opadłymi liśćmi i w ściółce.
