Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony głównie w południowej i środkowej Europie, na północ sięgający do Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii i południowych prowincji Skandynawii. W Polsce jest chrząszczem rzadko spotykanym, łowionym jedynie na kilku rozproszonych stanowiskach. Zasiedla wilgotne lasy liściaste, zwłaszcza bukowe. Znajdowany w zmurszałych pniach, pod odstającą korą, opadłymi liśćmi i wśród mchów.
