Taxon description
Gatunek holarktyczny zamieszkujący prawie całą Europę, zachodnią i północną Azję aż do Japonii, notowany również z umiarkowanej strefy Ameryki Północnej, w Fennoskandii sięga daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. W Polsce występuje w całym kraju, dość pospolity na obszarach nizinnych, w górach rzadziej spotykany, nie znany tylko z Wzgórz Trzebnickich i Gór Świętokrzyskich. Zasiedla lasy i tereny otwarte, spotykany na rozkładających się szczątkach organicznych, niekiedy w gniazdach ssaków i ptaków.
