Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący południową i środkową część Europy oraz Danię i południową Szwecję, wykazywany także z Kaukazu, Azji Mniejszej, Armenii i północnego Iranu. W środkowej Europie występuje głównie w pierwotnych lasach liściastych, zwłaszcza na obszarach górzystych, na niżu poławiany rzadko na rozproszonych stanowiskach. W Polsce znany głównie z południowej części kraju. Cykl rozwojowy tego gatunku trwa kilka lat. Larwy żerują w martwym, suchym, twardym drewnie jeszcze żyjących drzew, w suchych grubych pniach i gałęziach leżących na ziemi. Jako drzewa żywicielskie larw piśmiennictwo podaje: buk — Fagus L., dęby — Quercus L., grab — Carpinus L., olsze — Alnus Mill., wiązy — Ulmus L. oraz leszczynę — Corylus avellana L. Chrząszcze odbywają loty w czerwcu-lipcu, w cieple i słoneczne dni, odwiedzając kwiatostany baldaszkowatych (Umbelliferae), dzikich bzów — Sambucus L. oraz wiązówki błotnej — Filipendula ulmaria (L.) Maxim., samice spotykano poza tym także na pniach i gałęziach drzew lęgowych oraz na pieńkach i drewnie ułożonym w sągi.
