Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący środkową część Europy, na północ sięgający po Wyspy Brytyjskie, Danię i południowe obszary Fennoskandii, a na wschód docierający do Syberii Zachodniej i Kaukazu. W Polsce chrząszcz pospolity, rozsiedlony na terenach nizinnych i w niższych położeniach górskich, zarówno w miejscach otwartych, jak i zacienionych. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano głównie na pokrzywach. Larwy żerują i odbywają rozwój w łodygach pokrzywy zwyczajnej — Urtica dioica L. Niekiedy wszystkie odcinki między węzłami od szyi korzeniowej po wierzchołek są zaatakowane przez larwy, na każdym odcinku zwykle przez jedną larwę, rzadziej przez dwie.
