Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony w południowej i środkowej części Europy, docierający na północ do Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii i południowej Szwecji. W Polsce, choć nie jest jeszcze znany z wielu krain, występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze prócz wyższych gór. Zasiedla głównie stare lasy, gdzie bywa spotykany w starych hubach i grzybach rosnących na drzewach liściastych. Rozwój odbywa w owocnikach ozorka dębowego — Fistulina hepatica (Schaeff.) ex Fr. i żółciaka siarkowego — Laetiporus sulphureus (Bull. ex Fr.) Murr.; starsze larwy opuszczają gnijące grzyby i dla przepoczwarczenia zagrzebują się w glebie. Nowe pokolenie ukazuje się w sierpniu lub wrześniu. Postacie dojrzałe znajdowano również na innych grzybach, jak boczniak ostrygowaty — Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq ex Fr.), boczniak wiązowy — P. ulmarius (Bull.) Fr. i sromotnik bezwstydny — Phallus impudicus L. ex Pers.
