Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1985:
Gatunek borealno-górski, szeroko rozmieszczony w niemal całej Europie, docierający w Fennoskandii do najdalszych krańców północnych, a w Alpach do wysokości około 2000 m n.p.m. W Polsce notowany głównie z południowej części kraju. Jest to chrząszcz charakterystyczny dla żwirowisk górskich wód płynących. Larwy żyją w mulistej i ilasto-piaszczystej glebie, zwłaszcza pod niedużymi kamieniami i wśród korzeni nisko i rzadko rosnących roślin. Są bardzo drapieżne, napadają na larwy i poczwarki drobnych owadów. Przepoczwarczenie odbywa się w czerwcu-lipcu. Postacie dojrzałe zimują. W czasie upalnej pogody występują zwykle gromadnie na nasłonecznionych miejscach koło większego kamienia leżącego na żwirowisku.
